Description
Baptisia australis is another well-known garden perennial with native origins. The tall indigo flower stalks on a broad leafy base form a sharp display in early summer.
It is a nitrogen-fixer, so is great for adding fertility to the garden. Starts off slowly in the first couple of years as it builds its root mass, but then becomes quite a wide shrub over time.
It has a number of uses in herbalism, including as an aid for sore throats.
